This camp was previously run by the local community but is sadly now in total despair and abandoned. Lovely setting but campers must be totally self-sufficient. A group of at least 3 vehicles is advised for safety. Was previously run by Spitzkoppe Reservations.

ACCESS:
As of Dec.2014 the lower and upper sites are open in the sense that there is no longer any control (previously run by the Local Community) at the entrance gate. The lower camp is a disgrace however as one needs a 4x4 to reach the upper one this site is rudimentary (no water, long drops and a few shade shelters). Still o.k. for a one nighter, as beautiful views and interesting hikes into the crater floor and the old Smithsonian Observatory. (Dec-14).
CAMPING ETIQUETTE:
This is not an official campsite but was used by a traveller before. Please ensure that you ask permission where applicable to use this site. Observe camping etiquette by not leaving any rubbish behind, dispose of your toilet paper properly and make sure fires are completely extinguished.
