The Ai-Ais Richtersveld Transfrontier Park opened the Sendelingsdrif ferry to cross the Orange River that forms the border between South Africa and Namibia. The pont takes visitors from Sendelingsdrift (SA) over the Orange River to Namibia, from 08:00-16:30 every day. The max weight that the ferry can carry, is 6 tons - two 4x4 vehicles, or one 4x4 vehicle with trailer. (Mar-22)
This is a very relaxed border post, the pont runs daily and best to check on the times and prices at the Richtersveld Park office. Note: Low water levels and flooding can affect the crossing.
The trip itself takes less than five minutes, whereas the alternative route would be 485km. A maximum of two vehicles can go across at a time and in very windy weather operation is stopped. The residents of Sendelingsdrif and Rosh Pinah receive a small discount for frequently having to use the ferry.
