The Namib-Naukluft region is mainly made up of the Namib-Naukluft National Park, the largest park in Africa. The towering burnt orange sand dunes of the Namib Desert developed over millions of years as the iron in the sand oxidized, like rusty metal. At Sossusvlei you can climb the world's highest sand dunes. If you want to explore the desert, there are many guided desert trails starting from Lüderitz. Kolmanskop, the ghost town with a rich diamond mining history and open air museum is well worth a visit. Camping is available on many farms around the park and these places often afford a more personal experience.
