The water is a little warmer here and it is home to the Boulder Penguin Colony. The settlement of African Penguins at Boulders is one of very few mainland penguin colonies. “Penguins are flightless, aquatic birds, which live in the southern oceans from Antarctica to the Galapagos Islands on the equator. There are seventeen species in all but the African Penguin is the only one to inhabit the African continent. They are extremely skilful swimmers, and can reach speeds of 24 kilometres per hour.” - Chris Smit, 2009/12/21
