During the Anglo- Boer War, on Easter Sunday, 30 March 1902, a train carrying British soldiers and civilians derailed between Barberton and Kaapmuiden. 49 People were killed and buried in Barberton Cemetery. All the British graves were later exhumed and the remains were re-interred in the Barberton Garden of Remembrance located on the north side of the town. The Hampshire Regiment Memorial lists the names of all those buried in the Garden and there is also a monument to the 2nd Battalion Hampshire Regiment.

From Barberton, drive North on the tarred Sheba road towards Malelane for 3km. Turn right into Henry Nettman street. Follow this road in an Easterly direction for 600m. The memorial is on your RHS.
