Kunene Islands Campsite is an isolated, rustic private camp situated close to the Angolan Border and Kunene River. The campsite is in an unspoiled area of the world, suitable for campers who wish to rest in peace and quiet the campsites have communal ablution blocks. Stargazing is possible with either your own telescope, or by pre-arrangement with owners, who are avid star-gazers). They also have a swimming pool. Birdlife is abundant and you might even spot some fish-eagles.
As this is a community operated camp, it is not always possible to contact them. For camping we suggest that you just show up as the community will help you.

From Oshakati, travel west on the main road to Ruacana (180 kms), pass the Ruacana turn-off (continue west), pass the Ruacana Border Post turn-off, pass the Ruacana Power Station - road becomes gravel. Continue on gravel (drive slowly, there are dangerous rocky areas) - pass through small river (called Oiva River) - ford is shallow, 2x4 vehicles can pass. Continue about 4 kms to sign for camp.

Drive carefully and slowly on gravel road. Be careful during rainy season which is February-March. Shuttle service available on prior arrangement. Kunene River may be canoed or rafted but there are a lot of crocodiles in river. It is on a border river (i.e. river may not be crossed). Fishing for bream and catfish only. (May-13).
