De Kelders is an Afrikaans name for 'the cave' as there are so many caves, including one of the famous freshwater cave which lead into an underground pool and De Kelder is the only freshwater cave next to the coast of Africa, with natural mineral water and has been changed into a swimming pool. This is a small village 5km north of Gansbaai and just 25 minutes from Hermanus in the Overberg region of the Western Cape province. Lying on the shore of Walker Bay, it is one of the best place for amazing whale watching. Best time for whale watching are from July-December, where the Southern right whales are in abundance. As a residential area facilities for visitors includes restaurants, bar, bakery, coffee shops and most of the accommodation are situated on the cliff.
