The Richtersveld is situated in Northern Namaqualand, in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa. It is a desert landscape with high mountains, rugged kloofs and stretched out valleys as far as the eye can see. The Orange River forms the border with neighbouring Namibia. This is an area with extreme temperatures from freezing to scorching summer temperatures up to 50 degrees. Rain is scarce, and generally between May and September. In 1991 the Northern Parts were declared a National Park. The local Nama people still lives in the area and their livestock can be seen crazing the planes. The Richtersveld Cultural and Botanical Landscape south of the National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Each small village in the Richtersveld has distinctive features and characteristics. The traditional culture of the inhabitants should be explored and enjoyed. In this region there is the famous Richtersveld World Heritage Site which forms part of the Ais-Ais/Richtersveld Transfrontier Park. This park is believed to be inhabitant different and a large number of plant species in the whole world. The park is jointly managed by the local community and South African National Parks with the locals also grazing their animals within the park.

In this region there is also the famous Port Nolloth Museum which represents the history of Port Nolloth from approximately 2000 years ago. Accommodation in this region range from guest house, lodges, self catering units, backpackers, beach houses and camping sites.

The main town in this region is Port Nolloth which also have the majority of services and facilities.
