Loxton lies 460 Km North East of Cape Town in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa, eighty kilometres west of Victoria West on the tarred R63. The farm Phizantefontein, was bought from AE Loxton by the Dutch Reformed Church in 1899 and a settlement to serve the sheep-farming community, was started. It became a municipality in 1905. During March 1961, a flash-flood caused the dam above the town to burst and 70% of the town was destroyed. Most of the town has been restored and the oldest building, the original horse stable of the farm Phezantefontein, is a portion of the now redundant power station. Loxton is a beautiful little Karoo town well worth a visit. Don't just drive through, rather stay over at one of the guest houses.

Loxton is situated on the R381 between Beaufort West and Carnarvon. It is 113km from Beaufort West which will take the best part of 2 hours to drive.
