Saron, is a small town just off tarred R44, about 100 Km N/East of Cape Town in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. In 1848, a Rhenish Mission station was started at the foot of the Saronsberg for the people of the area, mainly freed slaves. Due to the flatness of the area, the mission was given the name 'saron' derived from the biblical term meaning 'flat or plain'.
