Near the entrance of the Hartmann valley, Israelis started mining endeavours, possibly garnet. In order to orientate themselves in the vast desert land of Namibia, they used different coloured drums, which signalled the turnout to Orupembe and the mine, and it is possible that this is where Blou Drom comes from.
