FORMERLY KNOWN AS MAMILI NATIONAL PARK, the park was given its current title in 2013. It’s the largest wetland conservation area in Namibia and the name originates from Nkasa and Lupala islands in the Kwando / Linyanti river systems. This park is characterised by large water channels, lagoons, reed islands and pristine wetlands. You’ll find elephant, lion, buffalo, giraffe, hippo and over 430 bird species here.
The best time to visit is between April and September. It’s transformed by the rainy season (during the hot months of November to March) when most of the area floods and becomes inaccessible. Some call it ‘Namibia’s own Okavango’.
Many of the campsites within the park are inaccessible during the rainy season. For this reason the best accommodation
options are the ones up north: the Rupara Rest Camp, Nkasa Lupala Tented Lodge and Livingstone’s Camp.

ACCESS & CLIMATE:
The best time to visit the park is between April and September. During the rainy months the grass can be very tall which makes it difficult to spot the animals. Also, parts of the park become inaccessible because of flooding.
A new bridge was constructed at Sangwali, making access into the park easier when the water levels of the Linyanti-Kwando rise. (May-16).
ACCOMMODATION:
Livingstone’s Camp has large shaded campsites with beautiful ablutions; together with the community, this venue has launched Livingstone’s Museum which follows David Livingstone’s trail through the region.
ATTRACTIONS:
You’ll find the She She Craft Centre just north of the park, in the Wuparo Conservancy, in Sangwali Village.

HEALTHCARE:
The nearest state clinic is in Sangwali Village in the Wuparo Conservancy just north of the park.
Be extremely cautious of roads that are undriveable during the rainy season. A new bridge was constructed at Sangwali, allowing for easier access when the waters rise.
