Nacala is also known as Cidade de Nacala or Nacala-Porto, situated on the northern coast and is also the most northerly port. It is the deepest natural port on the east coast of Africa, but also one of the three cement works sites in the country. The city is a terminal for the Nacala Railway, which connects to the landlocked Malawi.
Nacala is a busy and industrious town with an airport and important harbour. It is currently the biggest export harbour in Mozambique. The traffic is quite heavy in Nacala and there are a lot of motorbike taxis on the road. Although the main business centre is modern the town retained a distinct African feel with many street vendors lining the streets.
