Samfya is the largest town on Lake Bangweulu with an economy centred around fishing; its small vessels are also put to work transferring travellers to other towns on the lake.

Traveller Description

Samfya’s white sandy beaches are ideal for a few days of relaxation. Hot and humid in the rainy season, the best time to visit would be in the cooler winter months, from May to September.

Several lodges dot the shores of Lake Bangweulu, offering comfortable lodging and shaded campsites. Of these Chita Lodge is the best option for a well-deserved break.

Lake Bangweulu is popular for recreational activities which include swimming; note, crocodiles occur in the lake so take reasonable care when swimming.
