Samfya is the largest town on Lake Bangweulu with an economy centred around fishing; its small vessels are also put to work transferring travellers to other towns on the lake.
Traveller DescriptionSamfya’s white sandy beaches are ideal for a few days of relaxation. Hot and humid in the rainy season, the best time to visit would be in the cooler winter months, from May to September.

Facilities include a post office, clinic, fuel station, basic supplies and yes, fresh fish sold at the harbour!
Lake Bangweulu is popular for recreational activities which include swimming; note, crocodiles occur in the lake so take reasonable care when swimming.
