A medium-sized town with over 40 000 residents, Mazabuka is surrounded by the Nakambala Sugar Estates’ plantations. The name Mazabuka means ‘to cross the river’ and refers to the Tonga people’s crossing of the Magoye river west of town, before they settled here.

The Munali Hills National Monument located on the T1, east of Mazabuka, marks the spot where David Livingstone passed through from the Kafue Flats, where Mazabuka is situated, to reach the high plateau around Lusaka.

There are several private clinics around the town like Mazabuka Central Medical Centre and Johnson Medical Clinic. For pharmaceutical services visit the Diva Chemist Limited along Livingstone Road or the Wonganichem Dispensing Chemist situated along Livingstone Road as well. (Jan-2019).

Banks in the town includes Barclays Bank, FNB, Standard Chartered Bank, Stanbic Bank and ZANACO Bank and ATMs around major shopping centres and at fuel stops. ZANACO seem to offer foreign exchange at their bank as it is one of the services mentioned on their website. (Jan-2019).

SHOPS & SERVICES:
There is a Shoprite food store in town. There is also a shopping centre, the Northend shopping center open from 07h30 -18h00. There is a shopping mall in the town, the Sugar Hill mall and also the Northend Shopping Centre. (Jan-2019).

 Travel Tip!

The road from Mazabuka to Kafue is in bad condition, is under construction, but lots of traffic and potholes - will be very dangerous at night! (2019).
