Traveller Description

The Choma Museum and Crafts Centre displays the cultural history of the Tonga people of this area, many of whom were displaced from the banks of the Zambezi River during the building of Lake Kariba. Craft centre displays include beadwork and weaving from women in the Sinazongwe district.

About 20 km north of Choma you’ll find the Nkanga River Conservation Area which consists of three private game farms interspersed with some livestock and crops. It’s one of Zambia’s Important Birding Areas, with more than 400 species found in this small Conservancy. Birders should be on the lookout for the endemic Chaplin's Barbet, while mammal sightings include sable, puku and tsessebe.
