Botswana Craft Market was established by the Botswana Development Corporation in the 1970s with the aim of uplifting the rural handicraft industry of Botswana. Now the company is privately owned since 1993. The craft work is also exported and creates revenue for the industry and country. They are involved in marketing arts and handcrafted goods from Botswana. The company works with distributors, retailers and craft producers throughout the world. The most famous craft is the basket which is used for various purposes in the country. Some of the baskets are made with lids for storage purposes; some open ones are used for winnowing grain after being threshed. Purchasing of the crafts can be done online at the retail shop or visit the store open daily during the craft market operating hours.
