Bathurst is the pineapple capital of South Africa, with its main claim to fame being that it was the administrative centre for the 1820 British Settlers. They were the buffer between the Cape Colony and the Xhosa pastoralists who were migrating along the coast. The town still has the look and feel of an early 19th Century English town, with most of the original settler houses and buildings preserved. The Waters Meeting Nature Reserve nearby offers hiking trails, picnic spots and a great viewpoint. Visit Bradshaw's Mill, Wesleyan Chapel, Bathurst Agricultural Museum and the Farmer's Market that's every Sunday from 9:30AM to 12:30PM.

| Notes on Activities : | Take a bird watching adventure at the privately owned MoyaPark Bird Reserve with indigenous forest complete with natural walkways and a dam from waterbirds. Visit the Powder Magazine situated on Battery Hill north of the village: a small historical military post. Visit the Richard Pullen’s Studio. An art and craft centre where visitors have a chance to view the potter at work and browse through the gallery. There are also hand-built African cottages on the reserve. |
