Hluhluwe, the 114-year old park in northern KwaZulu-Natal is the oldest game reserve in Africa. Set close to Durban in Kwazulu-Natal, known as Zululand. Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve is divided into 2 section, Hluhluwe Game Reserve is in the northern section of Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park and iMfolozi Game Reserve is in the southern section of Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park. Imfolozi Game Reserve was established in 1895. Home to the White Rhino and dedicated to its conservation. The Big Five and numerous other animal and bird species can be found there. It is remembered for its white rhino conservation during the late 1950s. The Lebombo mountain range borders one side of the park and the iSimangaliso Wetland Park (Great St Lucia Wetland Park) is 10 Km to the east. Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife manages one of the largest eco-tourism operations in South Africa offering a range of accommodation options within the park. Summers are hot and humid with frequent rainfall often in the form of thunderstorms while winters are hot and dry and can get cold at night.
