Nsangwini Rock Art is a bushman paintings, the work of the San people, which is a painting, which lies beneath a rock overhang down a rocky trail. Archaeologists believe that these paintings were completed in a shamanic trance and that many carry symbolic meaning where the people recorded their experiences, visions and dreams. Situated 7.5kms from the tar, the road leading to the rock art is dirt road and can be a bit rough after heavy rains but the road is suitable for all vehicles and may need a vehicle with high clearance is highly recommended.
The tour is guided where a local guide will take you through the different ochre and blood painted imagery that can be seen on the walls from spirits with insect heads, animals and humans carrying spears. All profits from this project are given to the Nsangwini village community. For more information visitors can contact the SNTC Headquarters.
