This reserve is one of Kenya’s less frequented protected areas, but is a jewel for overlanders who prefer off-the-beaten track places. This is the traditional homeland of the Samburu people, who were drawn to this arid area by northern Kenya’s biggest river, Ewaso Nyiro. The reserve is home to the five rare species (Grevy zebra, Somali ostrich, Generuk or giraffe gazelle, Reticulated giraffe and the Beisa oryx) as well as herds of elephant, lion, leopard and wild dogs.
