Lake Mburo was originally gazetted in 1933 as a Controlled Hunting Area and upgraded to a Game Reserve in 1963. The park was named after Lake Mburo, the largest of 14 lakes in the park. Its connecting swamplands are home to hippo, crocodile and some 315 bird species, some of which are found nowhere else in the country. (Oct-15)
