Located in the sea of rippled red Kalahari sand dunes, the small town of Aranos is surrounded by nature reserves and commercial livestock farms. The Natural Namibia Meat Producer’s (NNMP) abattoir in town is an approved export facility for lamb, mutton and beef to South Africa and the EU. Livestock roams freely between the dunes, giving the meat a uniquely natural flavour and taste.
For more information visitors to the town can contact Aranos Town Council.
Traveller DescriptionThe dry Nossob River Basin, originating in the Anas Mountains near Windhoek, passes south of the town before entering the Kgalagadi Game Reserve in South Africa. Wildlife flourishes in the area and ostrich, springbok and gemsbok (oryx) are regularly seen.
Aranos offers all basic facilities as well as an information centre. Note that the fuel station closes at 16:30.
