Iona National Park covers about 15,200 kmĀ² and is the largest in the country. It is now managed by African Parks.

The park forms part of the northern Namib Desert, the only true desert in Southern Africa. It was proclaimed as a reserve in 1937 and upgraded to a national park in 1964. The park has various topography characteristics like dunes, vast plains, and rough mountains and cliffs. The Iona National Park is located between the Atlantic Ocean, being bounded on the south by the river Cunene, and, on the north, by the river Curoca.
