Zinave, which covers some 408 000 ha, was declared a protected area in 1972, but was sadly ravaged by sixteen years of civil war. In 2016 the park got a boost when the Mozambican Ministry of Land, Environmental and Rural Development signed a co-management agreement with Peace Parks Foundation to jointly develop the park as an integral component of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area. Since then some infrastructure was developed, they had great success with anti-poaching and close to 2 300 animals that included impala, reedbuck, waterbuck, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, sable, elephant and hyena, have been translocated into a 18 000 ha sanctuary in Zinave. Peace Parks aims to relocate 7 000 animals to the park over a five-year period. (May 2021)

“If you use the standard Garmin map you will experience this difficulty, but the roads are properly configured on T4A map.” - Janine Reyneke, 2010/03/05

“This what happened when we followed the GPS. Stick to a compass & common sense if entering the park from the east & you'll be fine!!! The south & western entrance is well sign posted.” - Jacqui Thompson, 2010/03/05
