The Mahale Mountain National Park is located in Western Tanzania along the shores of Lake Tanganyika. It was named after the Mahale Mountains range. The park is home to Africa's last remaining wild chimpanzees. The tallest point of the park is Mt Nkungwe which is 2462m high. It is the traditional home of the Watongwe and Waholoholo tribes. ACCOMMODATION:
There are five self-contained tourist bandas - two rooms with twin beds, and a private bathroom. The park also has three luxury, tented camps owned and run by private investors.
ACCESSIBILITY:
From Kigoma, Mahale can be reached by boat or by light aircraft.
