Ntumbachushi is usually two waterfalls separated by a rock buttress but during high water levels the water covers this and it becomes one set of falls. The pool at the foot of the falls is deep, with strong currents and eddies, so it’s quite dangerous to swim in. There are well-developed walkways leading to the two falls and up onto the escarpment, where a series of falls and pools stretch for about two kilometres through beautiful vegetation.
The smallish (no more than 1m high) Euphorbia williamsonii is endemic to this area, and only occurs in a few hundred square metres along this river, in sandy patches on top of the rocky outcrops. Please do not touch the plants, although they are thriving, they are only found in this area and damaging the plants could lead to their eventual extinction.
USD15 pp entry plus USD5 per vehicle. You have to pay in kwacha. Lodging is being built but not open yet. (2019).
It seems like restaurant and bar operates over weekends, so beware of loud music and crowds. Rather visit these falls in weekdays.
