Booking

The Mata Mata camp is situated on the banks of the dry Auob River on the western boundary of the Park, and offers a range of accommodation types including, chalets, riverside chalets and campsites. The camp has a swimming pool, shop and fuel facilities. A generator provides electricity.

The campsites are spread over a ground terrain, with power points and shade, and neat ablutions. There is a small waterhole and hide right next to the campsite.

As this is a very popular camp, reservations are advisable.

November, December & January: 04:30 - 23:00;
February & March: 05:00 - 22:00;
April, May, June & July: 06:00 - 22:00;
August & September: 05:30 - 22:00;
October: 05:00 - 22:00.

Notes on Activities :  Hide at the waterhole. There is a game hide in the camp near the waterhole. If you have a camp next to the fence you can sit at your own camp and view the waterhole. Game drives and night drives are offered but be sure to check in advance if they are operational to avoid disappointment. 4WD trails are not open to visitors without a booking. Best to book in advance. (Some activities may be offered nearby).

Internal roads are not suitable for sedan vehicles.

GATE TIMES:
The border post at Mata Mata is open between 08:00 and 16:30 (no afterhours travel allowed) and operates independently of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park rest camp gates and park entry gates shown below:
January / February: 05:30 -18:30
March: 05:30-18:00
April: 06:00-18:00
May / July: 06:00-17:30
August / September: 06:00-18:00
October: 05:30-18:00
November / December: 05:30-18:30

In January, November and December, the camp gates open an hour earlier.

TRAVEL DISTANCES:
Travelling time to the camp at Tweerivieren is about 2.5 hours.
Travelling time to Nossob, via the Kamqua dune road is about 3.5 hours.

 Travel Tip!

Not allowed to collect wood in the Kgalagadi Park.
