Cultural Village Living Museum Of The Damara (Twyfelfontein)

ID: w253993 View large map

Located in Namibia :: Damaraland  :: Twyfelfontein Area
Category: Attraction :: Cultural Village

A “living museum” is a cultural village representing the way of life of a specific cultural group, as it was before the influence of the European colonial culture. The Living Museum of the Damara offers a way to experience the traditional culture of the Damara, one of the oldest nations in Namibia. Originally archaic hunter-gatherers and herders of cattle, goats and sheep, the Damara was not well organised to defend themselves against their aggressors against attacks, and is one of the main reasons why their culture is threatened with extinction. At the Living Museum of the Damara, visitors can experience the traditional life of the Damara in their village, go on a bush walk with the women to collect plants for food and medicine, or accompany the men to set up traps and snares for hunting. Guests can also visit the nearby Louw-In village, where the Damara leads a modern, Western life style, on special request.

No accommodation is offered here yet. (Sep-2017).
