Lake Eyasi is the largest body of water in Arusha region. It is a seasonal shallow salt lake on the floor of the Great Rift Valley and surrounded by volcanic mountains. The lake has huge soda that surpasses Lake Manyara in size, and the saline border extends and shrinks depending on the amount of rain that has fallen over the year. The lake is fed by the Sibiti and Baray Rivers.

The Hadza people who still hunt for food inhabits around the lake and visitors are welcome to spend time with the Hadzabe Bushmen or the Datoga Herdsmen. The Hadza people are also known as Hadza, Hadzapi or Tindiga people who are also descendants of the Aboriginal hunter-gatherers. They have a language of their own which does not resemble any other language. They live in groups of about 20 people with no rule or hierarchy and they share all the resources including food and may relocate if need be, so they often have minimal possessions.

Lake Eyasi inhabitant large populations of flamingos and pelicans in the breeding season.
