Lake Kivu is on the western side of Rwanda and it is a huge freshwater lake which lies along Africa’s Great Rift Valley. Lake Kivu is Rwanda’s largest lake, and the sixth largest lake in Africa. Guests can relax and swim here and can also take a boat ride past the small lake side village which gives a rewarding glance on the rural life. Lake Kivu empties into the Ruzizi River, which flows southwards into Lake Tanganyika.
This lake is also a perfect place in between the gorilla safaris and chimpanzee tracking in the nearby national parks. For those interested in sun bathing, swimming as well as water sorts, the Rwanda Rivera town of Gisenyi is also the best place to be. In case you like complete privacy for both physical and mental relaxation, we also recommend Kibuye Guest House situated in the south of the lake.
