Established in the mid 90s, Mutinondo Wilderness is a privately-owned reserve on the edge of the Luangwa escarpment that offers pristine vegetation, sparkling clean rivers and beautiful waterfalls.

Traveller Description

Mutinondo is an exquisite area to relax and enjoy the scenery on foot - a hiker’s paradise. The reserve includes 70 km of trails which wind between magnificent inselbergs (granite outcrops which look like ‘island mountains’) in an area with high biodiversity - there are more than 1 600 plant species. With approximately 295 species of birds, including specials such as long-toed and chestnut headed flufftails, this reserve is classified as an IBA (Important Birding Area). The hiking trails also lead through stunning woodlands and along small streams dotted with waterfalls and rapids, with beautiful pools to cool down in (no crocodiles or hippos!).
