You’ll find this little town on the eastern flank of the Orange River. Its Afrikaans name means 'North Bank' and points
to the fact that the Orange, which forms the border between Namibia and South Africa, runs into the Atlantic due west
of this point.
The Namibian border post of the same name lies a short distance outside the town while across the
river you’ll find Vioolsdrift, its South African counterpart. Besides the industry that a busy border post attracts,
this area also boasts grape, date and tomato farms.
Many South African visitors are drawn to this area by the canoeing and rafting activities offered here. While this dusty brown town doesn’t offer much else, there’s a reasonable number of accommodation venues in the vicinity located along the lush, green riverfront.

FUEL:
Take note: Garage or Petrol cards will no longer be accepted as a legal tender for purchase of fuel, spares or repairs in Namibia.
Cash, Debit and Credit cards are legal payment instruments, but many fuel stations choose NOT to accept Debit and/or Credit cards. But generally credit cards are accepted at garages in bigger and touristy towns. Take extra cash with still in case!

ROUTE INFO:
The road from Noordoewer to Aussenkehr is good tar road. You shouldn't miss Aussenkehr. The thousands of little reed houses erected for seasonal workers are something to see. It is a good road to travel. If you enter at Noordoewer, turn left on the C13 to Aussenkehr (nice places to camp are Amanzi Trails or Norotshama River Resort
SHOPS:
In town you’ll find a bank and a supermarket with its own bakery; here you can refill your gas canisters.
