The Erongo region lends its name from the Erongo Mountains where beautiful gemstones are found. These gemstones are sold informally along the roads.

THIS REGION GETS ITS NAME from the Erongo Mountains where beautiful gemstones are found - these are often sold, informally, along the roads.

Spitzkoppe (meaning sharp hill) is one of Namibia’s most recognisable landmarks and most famous mountain, it’s also an outstanding camping spot. Although it’s not the highest mountain in Namibia, it is popular for rock climbing. Even though it looks like it has a sharp peak when viewed from afar, Spitzkoppe actually consists of a series of rounded granite boulders.

Erongo is a farming area with lots of game farms that offer accommodation. The B2 highway between Windhoek and Swakopmund traverses this region and offers easy access to its attractions.

Omaruru is a charming and tourist-friendly town where you can visit one of Namibia’s few wineries, Kristall Kellerei. Though small in size, the town is well worth a visit if you’re interested in arts and culture.

On the Erindi Private Game Reserve visitors can enjoy wildlife from the smallest insects to the largest land mammals, as well as a multitude of rare and endangered species.

MAJOR ATTRACTIONS:
Phillip’s Cave is known for its rock art and archaeological findings.
At the San Living Museum you can experience the traditional San way of living.
The Tikoloshe Root Carving market in Omaruru offers amazing crafts.
You can either camp at Spitzkoppe Nature Reserve or enjoy a day visit to these extraordinary rock formations and Bushman Paradise cave with rock paintings.
The rock paintings in Ekuta Cave are believed to have been made between 4 400 BC and 100 AD.
The Erongo Singing rocks make metallic melodious sounds when beaten with a rock.
Kristall Kellerei is one of Namibia’s few wineries and a lovely spot to enjoy lunch in the garden.
