ID: w147943 View large map

Located in Zimbabwe :: Matabeleland  :: Beitbridge (Zimbabwe)
Category: Civil Infrastructure :: Border Control

A single paved carriageway. This border post is quite difficult to get through it takes a long time get through the border sometimes 2hr30min or more. Your vehicle will also be at risk due to the lack of safety.

Alternatively try going through the Plumtree Border control which takes about 5 minutes and Martin's Drift Border Control, there are little to no queues and the roads are much better, there are also no toll roads.

Be prepared to pay these costs at Zimbabwean border posts: Carbon Tax, Road Accidents Fund and Insurance. Rates are quoted in USD, so take USD dollar notes with - but you can pay in ZAR.

Ensure that you have relevant vehicle registration documents, and if you are hiring the vehicle, a letter from the bank giving you permission to take the vehicle across the border.

A police clearance may also be required.

If you enter Zimbabwe with your own vehicle you only need the original registration document (take copies to hand in) and your drivers licence and passport. If the vehicle is registered in the name of a company or somebody else's name, you need to have a letter on a official letterhead stating that you may take the car through the border. If the owner is not the driver, it should be stated in the letter that the owner or company has given permission for the driver to drive the vehicle. They will not let you through without this!

Bring enough cash. They do have a card machine.

GENERAL:
Tracks4Africa has had reports in July 2012, that it is chaos to cross here. Your vehicle and all other paperwork you need must be police cleared! Prepare to spend up to 4 hours at the border post! You will be expected to pay bribes for everyone even the officials to get through! A suggestion could be to rather go through Pafuri into Mozambique and then again into Zimbabwe! (Jul-2012).

To all visitors and persons involved in tourism in Zimbabwe: The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority have staff stationed at the Beitbridge border specifically to assist any visitors or tourists coming into Zimbabwe.

They are positioned at the end of the bridge in the car park as you cross into Zim, and will assist you right through the border, sorting out all the formalities, Road toll, Customs, Road tax, Immigration, Visas, Interpol, etc. and then see you right through to the exit gate, they will handle everything for you at absolutely no charge whatsoever.
That is their job and they are very proud of it, and it is to show the tourist that you can enter Zim without any problems and at no unforeseen costs.
Travellers have reported using their services, and said it was fantastic. The Area Manager is Bertha Mutowembwa on +263-286-23640/1 office, or +263-772 344317 or +263-712 320428 email. [email protected] and the Marketing Executive is Lindarose Ntuli on +263-772 409373 or the above office No. email. [email protected]
All you have to do is drop them a mail the day before you expect to cross and then phone them before you cross over and they will meet you at the bridge to sort you out. (June 2014).

VEHICLE REGULATIONS:
White and Red Reflective Tape, Warning Triangles and Fire Extinguisher are compulsory for each vehicle travelling to Zimbabwe. (Feb 14).

Vehicle registration documents are checked very carefully. A police clearance certificate will help you get across in case there are any unforeseen problems. (Nov-14). Does not accept South African car insurance unless if bought through the AA. (2014).

 Travel Tip!

Many travellers prefer to avoid Beit Bridge and rather travel another 200 kms and enter Zimbabwe via Plumtree or Mphoengs border posts.
