The small town of Kazungula is generally filled with tourists, and trucks refuelling before crossing the border into Zambia or Zimbabwe.
Queues at the Kazungula border post into Zimbabwe are often long and slow-moving due to tourists travelling to Vic Falls, which is a short distance away. And crossing into Zambia on the Kazungula Ferry can be equally slow as the ferry can only take one truck or two to three cars at a time. There are usually two ferries running but both are prone to breakdowns. As preference is given to passenger vehicles, it's not unheard of for trucks to sit in a queue for more than two days waiting for their turn on the ferry. The ferry operates between 06:00 and 18:00.
Kazungula Bridge is a road and rail bridge between Botswana and Zambia which will replace the ferry. Construction began in 2014 and is expected to be complete in 2018, at an estimated cost of US$259 million.

The Engen fuel stop sometimes runs out of diesel as all the trucks refuel here where diesel is cheaper. So if you’re travelling through Kasane, it’s a good idea to refuel at the Shell or Puma fuel station before proceeding to Kazungula.
The Rural Health Centre (clinic) is now fully operational in Kazungula. (May-17)
A relatively-new shopping centre provides foreign exchange, a Choppies supermarket and pharmacy; across the road, there are several tyre repair shops as well as a Rural Health Centre.
There’s no ban on taking fresh meat and fresh produce (for your own consumption) into Zambia and Zimbabwe but you may be hassled by entrepreneurial officials. If you want to avoid this hassle, there is an OK food store and small Hypermarket in Vic Falls (Zimbabwe) and a Shoprite in both Mongu and Livingstone (Zambia), that are all well stocked.
